Justice to the Muslim Women, Finally!

Er. Kunal Bharti, Political Analyst In a massive victory for PM Narendra Modi-led NDA government, the triple talaq bill has been passed by the Rajya Sabha. The bill makes instant triple talaq a criminal offence. The Bill will now go to President for his assent. Once the triple talaq bill gets assent of the President and notified by the government, it will replace the triple talaq ordinance promulgated last in February.THE TRIPLE TALAQ BILL IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF EXECUTIVE-LEGISLATIVE-JUDICIAL COLLABORATION TOWARDS ENSURING SOCIAL JUSTICE. Now one can easily say "MODI HAI TOH MUMKIN HAI". The Important features of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill is that the bill makes the all declaration of triple talaq, including in written or electronic form to be void and illegal. Triple Talaq, also known as talaq-e-biddat, instant divorce and talaq-e-mughallazah  is a form of Islamic divorce which has been used by Muslims in India, especially adherents

Union Budget 2019-20: High on intent, Low on allocation

Sujit Kumar, Senior Economist The First Budget of Modi Sarkar 2.0 needs to be seen together with Interim Budget presented in February this year. There's broader continuity as far as budgetary allocation is concerned with small, but effective, changes under certain heads.  Speaking of budget maths, it is based on nominal GDP growth assumption of 12% during FY2019-20, as against 11.5% growth assumed in Interim Budget. This seems quite optimistic given Economic Survey forecast a real GDP growth of 7%, thus implying inflation to be higher in remaining 9 months (~6%) to realise this nominal GDP growth number. If so, monetary policy need to be tightened, and not accomodative. If nominal GDP growth be taken at 11%, fiscal deficit will come at 3.4%. The slippages are likely more on count of optimistic revenue assumptions than expenses budgeted. Further, expenditure mix is clearly biased towards revenue expenditure (14.3% y/y) as capital expenditure is budgeted growing at 6.9

Economic Survey 2018-19— A Survey for the Future

Sujit Kumar Senior Economist Economic Survey 2018-19, as presented to the Parliament by Finance Minister, N  Sitharaman , details the vision of  Modi   Sarkar  2.0 of making India a $ 5 trillion economy by 2025. The Chief Economic Advisor (CEA)  to Ministry of Finance, K  Subrahman ian  in his maiden survey has done a remarkable job in mixing academic rigour with policy imperatives for Government having renewed mandate for another five year term.   The Survey is imaginative in offering solutions of various policy riddles,  while drawing from  experiences of other economies, especially China and East Asian economies, which grew faster for a considerably long time to successfully transform the living standards of their citizens. India, the CEA reckons, has all the ingredients to emulate that success story in terms of macro-stability, robust institutions, high level of savings and investment rate and most importantly a youthful demography.  The key to $5 trillion is getting

Water Scarcity - A Detailed Analysis on Problem and Solution

कुणाल भारती राजनीतिक और सामाजिक विश्लेषक    Water covers 70% of our planet, and it is easy to think that it will always be plentiful. However, freshwater the stuff we drink, bathe in, irrigate our farm fields with—is incredibly rare. Only 3% of the world’s water is fresh water, and two-thirds of that is tucked away in frozen glaciers or otherwise unavailable for our use. As a result, some 1.1 billion people worldwide lack access to water, and a total of 2.7 billion find water scarce, for at least one month of the year. Recently, PM Modi in his first edition of Mann Ki Baat (2nd Term), urged the leaders of different areas to lead innovative campaigns for water conservation and contribute in saving water in their own way. He urged citizens to unite for conserving water and appealed to people to make a list of methods to conserve water and share the same on social media using the hashtag 'JanShakti4JalShakti.' Water scarcity is due to insufficient freshwater resources
